OH, FOX RIVER

Oh Fox River,
Why did you do that to me?
Oh Fox River,
I flew up through the path to thee.

suffocate
phantoms chasing me
crushing weight
a hex on me
must stay awake
on a runaway train
with a sad sad creature

My escape
is made upon this place
To the riverside, I try to get away.
Leave me alone,
This toxic home.
I fly away,
To the river side.

I fly to the riverside
I sing my heart to thee,
in the rhythm of my bike
there’s safety in the trees
To get lost in the prairie path
A red wing black birds prayer.
I’ll fly with them.

phantoms chasing me,
I try to get away.
then there’s that old hex
I cannot escape.
lost in the fog,
on a run away train
with a sad, sad creature:
Must be in pain.

(spoken)
I passed by an old witch on the bank standing by a pyre.
It all caught up to me.
There’s no safety in the trees.
Oh Fox River, why’d you do that to me?

And so I flew far away from the Fox,
I’m sorry mom,
I cannot carry that hex anymore.
The river is so endless,
and don’t you know they all connect.
All along I was hanging on to the same old hex.

Then I met another riverside.
it washed it away,
ate it all up like an ancient hungry fae,
showed me a love and
wrote a poem in my heart,
and now I know.
Now I know.

Oh Fox River,
You have done no wrong by me.
Oh Fox River,
You were just a stream beside me.
